From a steel distributor into an integrated steelmaking group

SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH was established in 1919 in Düsseldorf by Arthur Schmolz and Oswald Bickenbach and since 1937 the company bearing their joint names has been a synonym for tradition in steel.

Originally a pure distributor of steel, the SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH Group with sites at Emmenbrücke/Switzerland and Düsseldorf/Germany has developed into one of the world's largest manufacturers, processors and distributors of special steel long products. In 2007, more than 11 000 employees generated sales of around four billion euros, trending upwards.

In the heart of Europe we produce high-grade steel that our customers need to be successful in their toughly contested markets. Our unique corporate concept with its three pillars of production, processing, and distribution and service qualify us as a solution provider and technology driver – and above all as a reliable and quality-conscious partner to our customers worldwide.

Our goal is to create a stable, robust, and globally based group of companies which, thanks to its own sources of supply and service as well as cross-regional compensation, reacts only minimally to external market fluctuations. As a single-source provider of solutions, know-how and service for steel, we want to constantly further expand and strengthen our position.
